The New Orleans Saints are Super Bowl champions! I am on one of the greatest highs of my lifetime! I didn't sleep much last night, and I am just soaking it all in still.

I am so proud of this team. We have some class guys here. That makes it all the more special.

Drew Brees is amazing. Really he was robbed of the league MVP this year, but I'm sure he will take the trade off of Super Bowl champs, and the SB MVP is just a bonus!

Who Dat!

Congrats to the Saints bro !!!!! As you know I was rooting for them in your honor, but I'm really surprised how poorly Manning played ( yeah I know, F*Manning .. LOL), but it was great to see Brees holding his own and maintaining his calm throughout......

The kicker gets a hell of a lot of praise from me .... he was awesome.

I'm glad New Orleans ( the city ) finally gets to see their own win a Super Bowl -- I know it means a lot to the city and people as well as the team.

Hold onto that feeling .........

It was awesome exchanging text messages during the game with you bro. Rich and I were going nuts over the game.

Brees was certainly a class act and that kicker was something else too. You gotta love a guy like Shockey (sp?) too. Great playing and resilience by the whole team.

Finally, what about that coach of yours? He's got the biggest balls ever!!

Who Dat!! Very Happy

Steve

Having no interest in football, I have NO idea what this means, but it's popped up a lot recently.

What does it mean?

Btw, I'm pleased some dumb team who never won a Super Bowl before has finally won. Congratulations to their fans.

For the Who Dat part, here's Wikipedia description:

Origins of the "Who Dat?" Chant
"Who Dat" became part of a chant for fans cheering on their favorite team. It has been debated exactly where it started, but some claim it began with Southern University fans either in the late 1960s or early 1970s and went "Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Jags" - Southern University being nicknamed the Jaguars.[3] Another claim is that around the same time it began at St. Augustine High School, a historically African-American all boys Catholic high school in New Orleans, and then spread to the New Orleans Public Schools. Another claim is that the cheer originated at Patterson High School in Patterson, Louisiana (home of Saints running back Dalton Hilliard).[2] In the late 1970s fans at Alcorn State University and Louisiana State University picked up on the cheer.[4] By 1983, the New Orleans Saints organization officially adopted it during the tenure of coach Bum Phillips, and Aaron Neville (along with local musicians Sal and Steve Monistere and Carlo Nuccio) recorded a version of "When the Saints Go Marching In" that incorporated the chant (performed by a group of Saints players) that became a major local hit, due in part to the support of sportscaster Ron Swoboda and the fact that Saints fans had been using the chant already.[2]

After the Saints won the NFC Championship Game on January 24, 2010, against the Minnesota Vikings in the Superdome, fans from all across New Orleans, including fans who were exiting the game, started a Mardi Gras-style "Who Dat" on Bourbon Street with modified lyrics, chanting, "Who Dat, Who Dat, Who Dat in the Super Bowl!" in reference to the Saints advancing to the Super Bowl for the first time ever in their 43-year history.[5][6]

Now, would you care to explain why the team is dumb? Sounds gratuitous to me...

Congrats to the Saints!... I'm still wondering myself what happened when the kicker went with the onside kick... One of the most courageous decision a coach ever made...

I know what it is to win a championship, my team in the CFL won the Grey Cup after losing it 6 time in a row... So I can understand what it feels to win it for the first time ever! Congrats and finally good karma pays... People of New Orleans, damn you deserve it!!!!!

I just got back from the airport where there were somewhere around 10 to 20 thousand people waiting to greet the team. Coach Payton had the Lombardi trophy in his passenger seat, & held it out of the sunroof while driving through the crowd. It was awesome!

Great trading text with you guys during the game. We were going crazy here too. Firework going off all around town. We partied well into the night. Still feeling the lack of sleep in my body, but the adrenalin is still kicking. The parade tomorrow will draw in the hundred thousands.

Larry - Manning played very well for the most part. Our D like all year, made the plays when it was on the line. Porter's pick 6 was about him knowing that play. More about our D than Manning. We took it baby!

Stevie, we said it again yesterday, Payton has huge balls of steel! Awesome coach! Btw you did spell Shockey correctly. Wink

Ben - If football is dumb to you, why take part in this thread? Rolling Eyes
I'll oblige though. To follow up Stevie, Who Dat could further be traced back to Vaudeville. It is a play on the language/accent folks sometimes talk with down here. Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Saints? The fan base is know as the Who Dat Nation.

Larry-
Brees outplayed some of the best this year! Both kicker (Hartley) and punter (Morested who handles punts and kick offs) have been money most of the time.

Stevie-

Ben-
as for the "Who Dat", Stevie has the modern history of it, but it goes back to at least the 1890's for musicians. It was used as a shout out from the stage for early jazz musicians. You can start your search with-
"Who Dat Say Chicken In dis Crowd" Smile

Todd, that was so great!

Sean Payton hols the Lombardi trophy out of the sunroof-

Wow what a weekend for New Orleans! I truly thought the Saints had the best team going in and if both teams play to their skill level the Saints win! I wish I would have said out loud, "Do you onsides kick here?" when I thought it Smile I am spent Cool

How did I miss your post Math? Thanks for the congrats. I think when something like this takes so long to get to this point, it makes it all the sweeter! I'm off to the victory parade!

Not just the most watched Super Bowl, but the most watched television program ever! Knocked off the series finale of M.A.S.H., which had held the crown for like 30 years.

You may have noticed Drew doing his pre-game chant before each game. All year, when asked, he would not tell anyone what exactly the team is saying. Here he is teaching it to the locals now that the season. Too cool!

Btw - this was after the parade last night.

Dusty it was great! I have never seen so many people at one event in my life! Traffic was unreal, it took us almost an hour to go the last mile Shocked
People were back to front and side to side with not even enough room to drink my beer Confused The player were having such a good time and were in awe of the volume and veracity of the mass of people. Folks would throw stuff on to the floats and players would sign it and toss it back, player got off to high five fans, I heard on the radio this morning that at one point the coach got down to let fans touch the Lombardi, crazy stuff. Crowd estimate I heard was 800,000, not bad when you consider New Orleans itself has a population of probably 400,000.

Yep and FYI, there are pages of vids on youtube if you want to see some of the parade, just search Lombardi Gras. I think I've watched them all...
Man, Mardi Gras is just starting and it will never be the same!

I've watched every SuperBowl since the one with the 49ers and the Bengals, when I was invited to watcfh at a friend's house.

I have no love for the game itself, but I'm not unaware of its charm to others. Plus, The Super Bowll is traditionally the biggest Commercial day of the entire year.

Benmech... the Bengals and the 49ers played each other twice in 2 different superbowls. Assume you refer to the second one?

Congrats to Dat Saints. I was pullin for 'em and it was cool to see Brees get his due.

Maybe you guys are sick of this, but I can never get enough. This has been some kind of ride. This is just too damn cool!
Check out Sean Payton while riding in what is imo the best Mardi Gras parade there is in N.O., getting off the float on Canal St., and sharing the Lombardi with the people.
